Kairos

When we go into prison for the weekend

We are given six babies

Spiritual babies that is.

The prison calls them inmates

Of course they are all criminals

And some are black,

And some are gay,

And some have aids.

And we tell them about God’s love and forgiveness

We feed them with home made cookies

And home cooked meals.

We sing together

We tell some of our stories

And we listen to their life stories

And we hug our spititual babies.

And the Holy Spirit enters all our hearts.

And we come to love our babies.

Sunday afternoon

We go into a room

We give them a cross and a final hug

And we separate.

We know they are in god’s hands

But still it’s a hard thing for a mother hen

To lose six babies in one day.
