In Church

The choir sang the beautiful cantata

in the great stone church.

But the little boy seemed unimpressed.

First he covered his ears.

Then he wagged his head

Shacking it back and forth vigorously

As if to clear the sounds from it.

His sisters all pretty and neat

Wished they were sitting a bit farther from him.

And now some whispering to his mother

And off he went across the center aisle

the only figure moving in the entire church

To whisper to the lady minister

obviously a friend of his.

She smiled and off he went down the center aisle

As the choir continued with the solumn cantata.

Soon he returned

running back down the aisle to his family.

But once again he was on the move

This time to the center of the church where the choir sang

And into the choir he plunged looking for someone

Pushing his way back to disappear among the choir robes.

I knew something was wrong with that little boy

Otherwise how could he be so free.
