What’s the matter with you?

What’s the matter with you

The little girl’s mother asked in exasperation

But the little girl didn’t know

But she knew it must be something,

Something bad since her mother asked time and again

Not in sympathy, but in exasperation.

But she still didn’t know the answer.

She knew she chewed her tongue

She made strange faces.

And she had her hands tied to the sides of the crib

to stop her from scratching her rash.

But this seemed to be something more

Something worse

But the little girl never knew

Never really knew

What was the matter with her.
